Championing science, accountability, transparency and justice in corporate transitions to zero emissions

Australian businesses are failing to take the action needed to limit warming to 1.5 degrees.

Despite public net zero commitments, many of Australia’s largest companies do not have science-aligned credible plans for reducing their emissions or phasing out the primary cause of climate change - fossil fuels.

Poor transparency, a lack of scientific rigour, patchy reporting and misalignment between lobbying and climate commitments by corporations are derailing progress and eroding public trust in climate solutions across Australia.

Australia needs
science based climate action. increased business accountability. to put a stop to greenwashing. to contribute to a just transition. climate integrity.

We need to close the integrity gap between businesses public pledges and what they are actually achieving.

We need credible, ambitious, science-based standards and regulation for corporate net zero plans that tackle greenwashing and drive faster & fairer emissions reductions.

The Australian Government must urgently take action to establish science-aligned standards to ensure corporate net zero plans actually deliver science-aligned emissions reductions, not more greenwashing.

Study finds Australian companies’ net zero pledges failing to meet international standards.

A comprehensive assessment of the climate plans of 10 of Australia’s biggest corporations* found they are lagging behind global best practice and lack scientific rigour.

None of the companies has a comprehensive, independently verified and fully costed plan for reducing their emissions in line with a scientific pathway.

Only half of the companies are on track to meet their own emissions reduction targets and none have plans to phase out the primary cause of climate change - fossil fuels.

Urgent government intervention is needed to improve regulation, guidance and compliance mechanisms to ensure net zero plans actually deliver net zero, not greenwashing.
